WEDNESDAY • When someone's seemingly irreparable treasure has been given a new lease of life by the experts, they usually thank them effusively and wave goodbye. But it's not necessarily the end of the story. What do they do with the item when they get home? Have they made any changes? Is it different now that it's been repaired? Has it rekindled even more memories? We're reminded of previous painstaking restorations before the Barn's craftspeople visit the owners to find out the answers to those questions. Regular viewers will probably remember a hand-made model of Doctor Who's robot companion K-9 that no longer obeyed commands, a battered attaché case with a link to Winston Churchill, a misshapen piece of millinery that's part of glam rock history and a broken ukulele once played by a much-missed son. In a shortened sequence we see how Mark Stuckey, Susie Fletcher, Jayesh Vaghela and Julyan Wallis restored them before being updated now that the items are back where they belong. It's as charming, emotional and life-affirming as always. JANE RACKHAM
